Linear actuators of the silent type

With the introduction of the stylised CARE 33 Linear Actuator series to its range, SKF Engineering Products Limited adds a virtually silent solution for a variety of applications. With a 20 per cent duty factor at maximum dynamic loading, the CARE 33 significantly outstrips its competitors.

CARE 33 actuators are designed for intermittent use and the gear train, in particular, has been developed to prevent the actuator collapsing in the event of the main driving nut failing during operation. Also, the high level of torque developed by the integral drive motor, to achieve the rated thrust, is more than sufficient to provide a safety margin and ensure reliability throughout its working life.

Within the design, the gearbox is allowed to float, which ensures the load path passes directly through the rear support bearing to extend operational life and help ensure the almost silent operation of the unit.

The CARE 33 range uses a current limiting control circuit to prevent dynamic overload and hence premature motor failure, making it highly reliable. The ergonomically designed electro-mechanical device is protected to IP44 as standard or, as an option, to IP65 classification.

Application specific details such as attachment type, orientation and cable types simplify installation and the units can be ordered with encoder positioning specified for certain applications.

An example of the CARE 33 range is the CARE 33A series, which is particularly suited for industrial use, as well as for healthcare equipment. The CARE 33A series offers static loading up to 6,000N and a dynamic load of 2,000N, with a maximum operating speed of 14 mm/sec. Current consumption is low through the 24-volt dc supply and stroke lengths can be selected between 50mm and 300mm.
